Ladies and gents, summer is finally here, and this time for real. Halifax winters do not go by in a flash by any means, but the summers sure do. So, let’s make the most of this one! We’ve got a beautiful city at our fingertips that’s bursting at the seams with awesome activities and events to fill your summer with. Let’s not make this one of those summers where we say we’re going to do a bunch of things we never end up doing, let’s plan ahead! We’ve taken the liberty or compiling 10 summer events we think you need to check out, so get those calendars ready.

Doors Open Halifax
June 3rd-4th

This is a wonderfully unique and extremely interesting event! Doors Open Halifax provides its attendees with a free opportunity to visit local buildings of architectural and historical significance. Many of the locations are not open to the public, so this is an extra special experience. There are guided tours, exhibits, displays, and performances to enjoy.

Eastern Shore Cold Waters Seafood Festival
June 6th-7th
5435 Clam Harbour Road

No one will argue against the fact that Halifax has some of the best seafood in the country. At this festival, attendees get to sample some of the freshest lobster, mussels, oysters, clams, and fish that the province has to offer. Coupled with activities, competitions, workshops, and more, you’d be crazy not to go!

Halifax Greek Fest
June 8th-11th
38 Purcell’s Cove Road

Join in for an awesome day filled with live Greek tunes, Greek dancing, wine tasting, a waterfront patio, kids activities, church tours, and SO much Greek food. Also, you have the chance to win a trip to Greece among other fantastic prizes. Get ready to eat, because this Greek cuisine can’t be beat.

2017 Backlot Bash
June 17th
Garrison Brewing Co.

Garrison Brewing Co. is proud to present the 3rd year of the Backlot Bash. There will be food trucks, a ton of drinks, and some amazing music. This year’s roster of performers includes The Sheepdogs, Port Cities, Garrett Mason Band, and The Royal Volts. We cannot wait for this sunny, music-filled event!

Halifax RibFest
June 30th-July 3rd
Lower Water Street

This event is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club. If you like to eat, and you love ribs, you’ll be head over heels for this event. There will be more ribs than you can even imagine couples with your other BBQd favourites. There will also be music, entertainment, and activities to enjoy. You don’t want to miss this mouth-watering event.

TD Halifax Jazz Festival
July 12th-16th
1858 Albemarle Street

Here we have the oldest Jazz Festival and largest summer festival in the Atlantic Region. The event attracts over 65,000 visitors and showcases the talent of renowned musicians from around the globe. This event was awarded with the title of Nova Scotia’s 2016 “event of the year,” so you know the 2017 edition is going to be incredible. The lineup is staked, and the vibes will definitely be high. Halifax Pride Festival
July 20th-30th
Downtown Halifax

This year marks the 30th year of Halifax’s Pride festival! There will be countless events happening around the city, including the legendary Pride Parade on July 22nd. Over 150,000 people come together to celebrate each year. Stay tuned for the full event calendar, this year will be unforgettable!

Halifax Busker Festival
August 2nd-7th
Lower Water Street

IF you haven’t yet experienced this awe-inspiring festival, we highly recombined that you do! Fire breathers, acrobats, comedians, musicians, and SO much more will perform during the 6 days of the festival. Throughout the 6 days, there will be 300 shows taking place on multiple stages. There is something from everyone to enjoy, no matter your age or taste in entertainment.

Halifax Seaport Beerfest
August 11th-12th
Cunard Centre

We hope you’re thirsty, because the largest East Coast Craft Beer and Cider Festival is returning to Halifax for its 11th year! No wonder it’s so popular, attendees get to enjoy beer, cider, and a whole lot of food on the Halifax waterfront. This year you will find over 300 beverage selections from 15 different countries, a waterfront patio, live music, great people, and just a whole lot of beer.

Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition
August 20th
158 Beach Road

This cool festival is the perfect excuse for a beach day. The festival takes place on the beautiful white sand of Clam Harbour Beach. There is live music, food vendors, and of course, the competition! This contest attracts over 10,000 people each year, and for goos reason. These sculptors create beautiful works of art right out of the sand, and you won’t believe your eyes.
